Let me introduce myself: I have been an art teacher at GW High School for eight years. In addition, I am a freelance graphic designer, painter and photographer. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a B.A. and teaching certification in art education, and am a National Board Certified Teacher in Professional Teaching for Secondary Visual Arts.

"When you are an artist you will be told what to do, what to change and how to make things better in other peoples eyes. You'll be told you need to go to art school, that you need to paint bigger, or in a different medium. You'll be given much advice often from people who haven't tried it themselves. You will be made to feel that you are not good enough, that you are not quite there. Uncertainties and doubts will be planted, and some of them will grow. You might become bitter or angry. You'll fight so many things, conflicts in your head and outside of your self. It will be hard. Shut them out and do what you love because you love to do it. Put your head down and work on what you feel is right, trust your own judgment and wants. This is your life as an artist and no one else. And if all else fails then know that I want you to succeed in your hearts desires."

This quote humbled me as an art educator for it is not my job as your teacher to be the sole judge, to have the best opinion or suggestion. I am merely along for the ride, offering the advice I have gained through the years of being an artist, but never one of perfect judgement. My joy in this profession is watching YOU grow as an artist, discover your talents, and learn from your attempts. I will try to keep you motivated, provide inspiration at times of desperation, but am also in this for my own personal artistic journey. I will be making art with you during this time and will always appreciate your suggestions and opinions on my own work.
